About Poona College

The Poona College of Arts, Science & Commerce was founded in 1970 by the AnjumanKhairul Islam (Mumbai) and is affiliated to the SavitribaiPhule Pune University (SPPU).

Within a span of 50 years, the college has grown into a full fledged degree  and post graduate college with P.G. centers in Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics , Zoology, Commerce, Economics, English and Urdu.Besides these subjects many staff members are recognized as research guides in Geology, Environmental Science, Botany,  Bio-mathematics, Bioinformatics, Electronics, Commerce, Economics etc. The college is also planning to have research centres in Urdu and English in the near future

The college has been accredited by NAAC and was awarded A Grade in Feb. 2004. The college is fully equipped with modern infrastructural facilities and has top class faculty members. The University Examination results speak well of the high degree of academic excellence attained by the students who are equally proficient in co-curricular activities. Emphasis is given on character building and all round development of the student's personality. Students are also encouraged to take active part in sports, NCC, NSS and they have made good progress in these fields too. Special attention is given to the students coming from economically backward and other backward classes as well as scheduled castes and tribes. The college has become a favoured destination for education seekers from all Indian states particularly the North-East and from over 25 countries. The college prides itself by possessing a rare distinction of having highly qualified, dedicated and enthusiastic staff with half of them Phds. while a quarter with M.Phil qualification.

Department Activity Report 2018-2019

Department Activity Report 2019-2020

Activities under taken during the Academic year 2019-2020 Activity 1 -“Disaster Management in India” Certificate Course Report- 2019 The Department of Geology had organized a 30 hours certificate course on “ Disaster Management in India” and it was successfully conducted in the Geology Laboratory. Dr. Sajid Hundekar was the coordinator of the certificate course. Dr Sajid Hundekar along with Mr. Irfan Shaikh, Mr. Mohammad Ali Bangi and Mr. Amarjeet Bhagat had drafted the course for total 30 hrs. (Theory and Practicals).The team has successfully tied up with PMC Fire Brigade Station, Lohianagar, Pune and Dial 101 Emergency Ambulance service for their assistance in conducting theory and practical sessions. Both the organizations had sent their representatives to conduct the sessions in college premises and their premises in Lohianagar. Dates: 16 th July 2019 to 16 th August 2019 No. of Students Participated : FY, SY and TY B.Sc. (Geology)- 51 Beneficiaries
